Collective Bargaining: The US Senate will be introducing their version of the collective bargaining bill as early as next week.  Senator Gregg [R-NH] and Senator Kennedy [D-MA] are the primary sponsors. We need more original co-sponsors of this bill. Senator Warner voted against the bill in 2001 after some concerns raised by the National Volunteer Fire Council [NVFC]. The IAFF reached an agreement with the NVFC to address these concerns in the bill that will be introduced.

We only need one or two more Republicans to secure a filibuster proof majority, and Senator Warner could be the key. Unfortunately, the National Right to Work committee is doing a very good job of spreading misinformation, claiming that the bill is anti-volunteer and would mandate a "card check" system of ratifying unions.  We need to counter this effort with numbers.  We need every IAFF local in Virginia to generate several calls into Warner's office asking him to cosponsor. Federal Presumptive:  We need your help in supporting legislation that has been introduced in the US House by Rep. J Davis [R-VA] and S. 1924 in the US Senate by Senator Warner [R-VA] and Senator Carper [D-DE].  This legislation would provide presumptive coverage for all federal fire fighters. We are concentrating our efforts at this time on Senator Webb and Rep. Bobbie Scott [D-VA]. HR 1142 currently has Rep. Drake [R-VA], Rep. Goode [R-VA], Rep. Goodlatte [R-VA], Rep. Moran [D-VA] and Rep. Wolf [R-VA] as sponsors.
